Galentine’s Day Gin Lovers Afternoon Tea Bus Tour in London

Single this upcoming Valentine’s Day? Or maybe you’re just not a fan of the celebration, regardless of your relationship status? If you’re after something a little different than a night in watching movies, eating pizza and ice cream, or playing games with the boys and want to go out and celebrate with your friends instead, our Galentine’s Day Gin Lovers Afternoon Tea Bus Tour might just be what you didn’t know you needed!

Galentine's Day Afternoon Tea Bus Tour

What is Galentine’s Day?

In case you’re wondering, the phrase Galentine’s Day became ‘a thing’ around 10 years ago when the American comedy television series Parks and Recreation (starring Amy Poehler, who plays the character Leslie Knope) used the term as the title of one of the episodes of their second season. Here’s a popular quote from that episode that sums out what the celebration is all about:

“Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst.”

Having spilled from a TV series into pop culture, ten years later the concept is still going strong! Galentine’s Day (or its counterpart, known as ‘Palentine’s Day’) is a non-official holiday celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day on February 13th. Galentine’s is a special day of the year dedicated to female friendship – it’s about women showing their love for their gal pals and their lady friends. So what do you think about the ideas of ladies celebrating ladies, whether they’re in a relationship or not?

But of course, no one wants the boys (single or otherwise) to feel left out! And that’s where Palentine’s Day comes in. Still celebrated on the 13th of February, on Palentine’s day boys have an unofficially official excuse to hang out with their pals.

Whatever you want to call it, this year we’ve come up with an initiative for anyone who, for whatever reason, would rather skip the Valentine’s Day celebrations and spend time with their dear friends rather than with a partner.

So here’s what we’ve put together for you – our first ever Galentine’s Gin Lovers Afternoon Tea Bus Tour.

The Brigit’s Bakery Gin Lovers Galentine’s Day Afternoon Tea Bus Tour

We love a themed tour here at Brigit’s Bakery, and for the first time ever this year, we have introduced a new bus tour to run alongside our more traditional Valentine’s Day Afternoon Tea Bus Tour.

Our Galentine’s Tour will run on Friday 14th February 2020 – it’s a Gin Lovers tour, and we’re only running one. The themed bus tour will depart from 8, Northumberland Avenue (just off Trafalgar Square WC2N 5BY) at 5:30 pm on Friday, 14th February, and we’ll be serving our Gin Lovers Afternoon Tea. So, leave your other half at home (if you have one), gather a group of cool friends, and come and join us for some fun.

Depending on traffic, the bus tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will take you around the streets of London. So you can expect our vintage Routemaster bus to drive you past Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, St James’s Park, Hyde Park, The Royal Albert Hall, Marble Arch, Nelson’s Column, Downing Street, and much more.

Here’s a little preview of the menu to get you excited. As always, with everything we offer here at Brigit’s Bakery, you can expect freshly-prepared savouries, including:

  • Pastrami burger with tomato salad and mustardy mayonnaise.
  • Ham and cheese and wholegrain mayonnaise on granary bread.
  • Minty cucumber and cream cheese on beetroot bread.

  • Gin jelly, crunchy pearls, lime mousse with Slingsby Gooseberry Gin and cucumber pipette.

And because our Galentine’s tour is a celebration of love (for your friends!), our cakes come with lovely heart decorations on them. What’s not to like?!

Obviously, it’s not afternoon tea without our plain, freshly-baked scones with clotted cream and jam. (By the way, do you put jam first or cream first? In case you’re not sure, head over to our popular post, Cornish cream tea: jam or cream first?).

Please note that our menu is subject to change, so check on our website closer to the time for more information. And if you have any dietary requirements or preferences, don’t forget to let us know at the point of booking. We also offer a range of alternative menus, including:
