Platinum Jubilee Celebration in London with Brigit's Bakery

In February 2022 Her Majesty The Queen became the first British monarch to ever celebrate the historical milestone of a Platinum Jubilee. To mark her 70 years of service, various events and initiatives will take place throughout the year, culminating in a four-day bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June 2022. If you're wondering if Brigit's Bakery has cooked up something special for the occasion, the answer is a resounding YES! Debretts

Our partnership with Debrett's

As we always do for special occasions, we partnered with Debrett's. They are the authority on modern British etiquette and often work with us to entertain royal enthusiasts and fans of all things British that join us onboard our bus tours.

We did this before when we celebrated the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle back in May 2018 with a very special Royal Wedding Afternoon Tea Bus Tour. Back then, Debrett's provided a guide who talked our loyal customers through the history of royal weddings. And not just those. They also talked us through all the traditions and rituals of formal afternoon tea!

Debrett's have designed an elegant leaflet that will be provided to our customers on all Jubilee Afternoon Tea Bus Tours. You'll be able to learn some interesting tea trivia and useful information about etiquette, finger sandwiches, and scones. We don't want to spoil the surprise here. But did you know you should avoid pointing your little finger in the air when sipping from your cup?

Platinum Jubilee Celebration in London

Platinum Jubilee celebrations in London

A private service of thanksgiving will be held at St Paul's Cathedral on the 3rd June 2022, but there's plenty for all of us to enjoy and get involved in if you're looking for a street party or a big Jubilee lunch. And not just during the long Jubilee weekend! There's a lot happening during the whole year. After all, when do we ever get to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee?

The Queen's Birthday Parade

An event you won't want to miss is the Queen's Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour) on Thursday, 2nd June. Over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians will come together in the traditional Parade to mark The Queen's official birthday.

Beginning at Buckingham Palace, the Parade will then move down The Mall to Horse Guard's Parade, joined by members of the Royal Family on horseback and in carriages. Of course, there will be an unmissable RAF fly-past too! And The Queen and her family will watch from the iconic Buckingham Palace balcony. If you didn't manage to get yourself some tickets, be sure to watch it on TV!

Platinum party at the Palace

The Royal Family and the BBC will also host a Platinum Party at the Palace (i.e. Buckingham Palace) on Saturday, 4th June. With state-of-the-art technology, the event will bring together the world’s biggest entertainers. Global music stars will grace the stage and perform in front of Her Majesty The Queen. The aim is to tell the story and celebrate some of the most significant cultural moments of The Queen’s reign. Again, if you didn't manage to secure yourself a ticket, make sure you switch the TV on to watch.

The Platinum Jubilee Pageant

Some of our other favourite activities include a Platinum pudding competition (for which entries are unfortunately already closed) or the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, which will be held on Sunday 5h June 2022 on the streets of central London. The event will tell the impressive story of the Queen's 70-year reign and our transforming society. It's a fantastic opportunity to enjoy and get involved. But if you can't make it in person, you can enjoy it on TV.

Platinum Jubilee Beacons

As you might know, the UK has a long tradition of celebrating special events with the lighting of beacons. This is why over 1,500 Platinum Jubilee Beacons will be lit throughout the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, and UK Overseas Territories. As per tradition, the principal beacon will be lit in a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace. But for the first time, capital cities of the Commonwealth countries will have their own beacons too.

The Queen's Green Canopy

Another event worth mentioning is The Queen's Green Canopy, a unique tree planting activity that invites people from across the UK to plant a tree for the Jubilee. The event encourages everyone to play their part to enhance our environment. With a focus on planting sustainably, most of the activities will take place during the official planting season. As the current one closed in March, the new season will open from October 2022. Plus, The Queen’s Green Canopy will also identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service. And doesn't that sound super exciting?
